The Texas Tech Laura W. Bush Institute for Women’s Health has partnered with The National Speaking of Women’s Health Foundation to bring to El Paso the first annual Hablando de la Salud de la Mujer Conference.

History
In 2003,
Hablando de la Salud de la Mujer TM, was established to empower the rapidly growing number of Hispanic women across the country.  Today there are close to fourteen million Hispanic-American and Hispanic women in the United States.  Hablando de la Salud de la Mujer TM, educates Hispanic women to “make informed decisions about health, well-being and personal safety for themselves and their families,” or “educar a las mujeres a tomar decisiones informadas sobre la salud, el bienestar y la seguridad personal para ellas y sus familias.”

Four hundred fifty women attended the first
Hablando de la Salud de la Mujer TM Conference held in
Los Angeles.  The program was presented in Spanish with English translation available on headset.
The program has since expanded to multiple cities. We are enthusiastic about spreading the message of health through education and pampering across the country to Hispanics eager to take charge of their health, well-being and personal safety, as well as address the health issues that are unique to their culture.

The National Speaking of Women’s Health Foundation through the Hablando event is making an effort to reach out to the El Paso community to acknowledge the hard work of so many of our non-profit organizations. These organizations strive to improve the health, well-being and personal safety of the women in El Paso. To support their hard work, we will be accepting Community Investment grant applications.

Each applicant must meet the following criteria:

•The recipient must be a Not-for-profit corporation

•The recipient must be recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) organization, with purpose consistent with ours (education) and preferably recognized by IS as a public charity rather than a private foundation

•The funds must be used for a specific project that will enhance the health, well-being or personal safety in the lives of women in our community

•Funds for start-up organizations will not be granted.  Organizations need to have a board and budget before being considered for Community Investment Awards

Applicants must include the following documents with their application:

•Copy of IRS determination letter (and separate documentation of “not a private foundation” status if determination letter pre-dates 1969)

•List of officers of the corporation
